Sports Court Shade

Explore how Sun Shade Australia delivered a large-scale sports court shade solution with minimal support posts and maximum durability.

Project Overview

Sun Shade Australia was engaged to design and install a large-scale shade solution for a multi-court sports facility in regional New South Wales. The project required covering over 2,000 square metres of court space while maintaining an open, unobstructed playing environment.

Client Requirements

The client needed maximum shade coverage with minimal support posts to avoid interference with gameplay. The structure had to withstand high wind loads common in the region, meet all safety standards, and provide a visually impressive finish that would attract community use of the facility.

Challenges

The primary challenges included spanning large distances between support points, engineering for high wind loads, maintaining safety compliance, and ensuring the structure could be installed without disrupting ongoing use of adjacent courts. The open nature of sports courts also meant the structure was fully exposed to weather from all directions.

The Superspan™ Solution

Sun Shade Australia's proprietary SSA Superspan™ structure was the ideal solution. Designed to cover large spaces with a minimum of support posts, the Superspan™ system uses high-tensile steel frames and premium shade fabric to create expansive covered areas. Each component was engineered by experienced structural engineers to Australian Standards.

Results and Benefits

The completed installation dramatically reduced court temperatures, increased usability during peak UV hours, and provided a comfortable environment for players and spectators alike. Court usage increased by over 40% in the first summer after installation, and the facility has become a showcase for large-scale shade engineering in the region.
